An Open Letter to members of parliament to a draft law restricting the access to safe abortion

An Open Letter to members of parliament to a draft law restricting the access to safe abortion in Slovakia.

Feminist and human-rights organizations ASPEKT, Freedom of Choice (Možnosť voľby), Citizen, Democracy and Accountability (Občan, demokracia a zodpovednosť) and Barbora Holubová, a sociologist, with the support of the Slovak-Czech Women’s Fund, prepared an Open Letter to MPs to stop a draft law proposed by the extremist and fascist ĽSNS political party that would radically restrict access to abortion for all women residing in Slovakia, and ban abortion for any woman coming from abroad.

An Open Letter has got an informative and mobilizing aspects with the aims:

  • To inform about crucial arguments why any draft law restricting or prohibiting the access to abortions does not improves the lives of citizens at all.
  • To mobilize people who feel that the draft law is violation of women’s rights to express their support.

Laws should be written in a way that reflects complexity of people’s lives. Indeed, to see the life as both complex and diverse, wants a courage. The laws must not violate the human rights which is the case of this initiative.
